Welcome Toddlers

Toddler Daycare Program in Newark, Delaware

NDNCC provides nurturing full-time care for children ages 2 to 3 years old, creating a safe and engaging environment where curiosity and confidence can grow every day.

During the toddler years, children begin building stronger communication skills, developing friendships, practicing independence, and learning through movement and play. Our teachers create hands-on learning experiences that encourage exploration, creativity, and problem-solving while helping your child feel supported as they take on exciting new milestones.

Busy and always full of energy, toddlers are constantly discovering new ways to explore the world around them.

Our classrooms are thoughtfully designed to support active learners with engaging interest areas, opportunities for movement, and activities that strengthen social-emotional, cognitive, physical, and language development. Throughout the day, toddlers participate in storytime, sensory exploration, outdoor play, and a variety of activities that spark curiosity and discovery.

Our teachers work closely with families to support each child’s individual growth including:

Hands-On Learning

Songs, stories, finger plays, sensory tables, nature walks, and art projects that spark creativity and early math & science skills.

Independence & Self-Care

Practicing hand washing, putting on coats/hats, cleaning up, and toilet learning.

Parent Partnership & Development Tracking

Daily activity forms, weekly lesson plans, monthly newsletters, Teaching Strategies Gold assessments, and biannual conferences.

Motor Skills Development

Indoor and outdoor movement skills from climbing, stretching, dancing, running, and jumping, to using utensils, cutting, and holding writing tools.

Social & Emotional Growth

Sharing, taking turns, cooperative play, managing separations, showing concern for others’ feelings, and seeking a trusted adult for help.

Potty Training

We work the magic of potty training in the Toddler classroom. Teachers communicate and collaborate closely with parents about their observations of their child and the strategies they are using at home. Consistency between home and school is very important. We will encourage our toddlers to use the potty without forcing them to make this change. Each child is respected for their own timing as they make this transition, and we encourage them when they show interest in being ready to learn how to use the potty. The children see their friends taking this step, which motivates them to try too. Our hope is that children are potty-trained before they move on to preschool, understanding that accidents will happen.

We ask parents to send in extra clothes and pull-ups for naptime as children are transitioning from diapers to being fully trained.

Teaching Strategies GOLD (TSG) and Ages and Stages (ASQ) Developmental Monitoring

Communication between families and teachers is key to your child’s experience at our center and adds to your level of comfort and satisfaction. NDNCC understands the importance of providing our families with information on their children’s progress and development. Outcome and assessment data, generated from our assessments, allow staff the opportunity to continually review and enrich our curriculum and better meet each child’s developmental and individual needs. These practices represent our commitment to continuous program improvement. We use Teaching Strategies GOLD (TSG) to monitor outcomes and Ages and Stages (ASQ) as a developmental screener.

TSG is an objective-based system designed for teachers to assess children in all areas of development and learning. Classroom activities and lesson plans are created to support school readiness in the areas of literacy and mathematics. Assessment results will be shared during bi-annual parent/ guardian – teacher conferences and by request.
