About Us
A Not-for-profit Daycare in Delaware
Newark Day Nursery and Children’s Center (NDNCC) was founded in 1961 as a nonprofit and community-based childcare center, bridging the gap between thoughtful service and accessibility. Several citizen-activists responded to an unmet need of working families, including single mothers, who were looking for high-quality and affordable child care so that they could return to school or the workforce. Newark Day Nursery and Children’s Center was born in response to this need.
Our Vision & Mission
Our goal remains the same 65 years later – to provide equal access to high-quality child care so that every child, regardless of family income, can reach their full potential. NDNCC provides comprehensive quality education for all children to ensure that they reach appropriate developmental milestones before entering kindergarten. By reducing the economic disparity that often inhibits children from reaching their full potential, our school creates an environment with equal access to the essential building blocks needed for success.
Our mission reflects this vision:
“We are dedicated to providing the highest-quality early childhood and school-age services to educate, enrich, and inspire children and youth from culturally and economically diverse families.”

Our Philosophy
Building Community and Inspiring A Love for Learning
Early childhood is the most magical and meaningful chapter of your child’s story. By blending top-class academics with a deep focus on emotional well-being, we build a sturdy foundation where your child’s mind and heart grow in perfect harmony. We utilize a holistic approach that supports the cognitive, physical, and social-emotional development of each child.
In our classrooms, kindness is a core subject! Going beyond just ABCs, children get a social superpower toolkit through expert guidance in self-awareness and esteem, cooperation, respect for others, and teamwork. They learn to navigate the world with respect and inclusivity.
Children also learn how to handle Big Feelings, gaining the tools they need to turn every obstacle into a resilient can-do moment. These skills are all crucial to their cognitive and behavioral growth, and create school readiness and a strong foundation for later academic success.
We believe:
Students
Each child is unique and has individual social, emotional, cognitive, and physical needs. We provide developmentally appropriate programming that supports the process of learning and allows children to enjoy successful experiences.
Parents
Parents are the most significant adults in a child’s life. Entrusting your child with us implies a special partnership to support your child’s health, growth, education and success.
Diversity
In the value of cultural, economic, and racial diversity – from our employees, the children we care for, and their parents. We see diversity as providing a special opportunity for our children to learn about respect and understanding toward others.

Summer Camps
Summer camp enrollment is based on the number of weeks needed by the families during the summer. Tuition for this program is due one full week in advance of each week of service. Field trips, meals, etc., are included in the weekly camp fee.
