A Not-for-profit Daycare in Delaware

Newark Day Nursery and Children’s Center (NDNCC) was founded in 1961 as a nonprofit and community-based childcare center, bridging the gap between thoughtful service and accessibility. Several citizen-activists responded to an unmet need of working families, including single mothers, who were looking for high-quality and affordable child care so that they could return to school or the workforce. Newark Day Nursery and Children’s Center was born in response to this need.

Child Safety

Newark Day Nursery serves children in a modern, secure facility on five wooded acres in west Newark. To protect children throughout the day, we keep the building locked and require all visitors to show identification before entering.

We carefully screen staff members by completing background checks and checking references. Families complete a Permission to Pick Up Form so we can ensure only authorized individuals pick up a child. Our staff also train in First Aid, CPR, and Administration of Medication.

Meals

We include meals in tuition and prepare breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack each day in our fully equipped on-site kitchen.

We prepare meals that meet, and often exceed, Federal Child and Adult Care Food Program standards. For summer camp, we include meals and field trips in the weekly fee.

Transportation

We provide transportation for school-age children attending Downes and West Park. Newark Charter School and Shue Middle School also pick up and drop off at our center.

Communications

We post emergency closings on Class Dojo and Facebook. Families can read our newsletters to see upcoming activities and updates.
