Welcome Tweenies

Toddler Childcare Center in Newark, Delaware

Beginning at 12 months, children can enter the Tweenie classroom once they are walking and developmentally ready to take on new adventures. At NDNCC, we create a safe, nurturing environment where children can explore confidently, build relationships, and begin expressing themselves in new ways every day.

Tweenie Time is filled with tiny steps, growing independence, and exciting discoveries!

Our classrooms are thoughtfully designed with child-sized furniture, open shelves, and engaging areas that encourage one-on-one and small group learning experiences. Through hands-on exploration, guided play, and movement, our teachers support each child’s growing curiosity and confidence while helping them develop important social-emotional, physical, cognitive, and language skills.

Your Tweenie will enjoy a classroom that offers:

Social Emotional Development

Building independence and self-confidence through parallel play, supportive gestures such as hugs, high fives, and phrases to help them grow a positive sense of self and acceptance of their peers.

Parent Partnership & Development Tracking

Consistent communication via daily activity reports, weekly lesson plans, open-door visitation policy, and biannual conferences utilizing Teaching Strategies GOLD (TSG) for monitoring developmental progress.

A Kingdom Built to Their Scale

Tiny chairs, low shelves, and just-my-size furniture that help them take charge of their own little world.

Growing Vocabulary

Growing their language skills by teaching them to follow simple directions, naming familiar objects, people, animals, teaching simple words to express needs and feelings, starting to form (short) sentences, joining in songs and stories during circle time.

Motor Skills Development

Building strength and coordination through indoor and outdoor play, developing fine motor skills by using utensils during meals, holding paint brushes and crayons, and stacking blocks and cups while strengthening gross motor skills through squatting, walking backwards, and through outdoor play on our 1-2 year olds’ playground.

Daily Updates

Communication between families and teachers is an important part of your child’s success and growth. We provide daily information sheets that share details about meals, naps, activities, and classroom experiences, along with weekly lesson plans and opportunities for family participation and visits.

Teaching Strategies GOLD (TSG) and Ages and Stages (ASQ) Developmental Monitoring

Communication between families and teachers is key to your child’s experience at our center and adds to your level of comfort and satisfaction. NDNCC understands the importance of providing our families with information on their children’s progress and development. Outcome and assessment data, generated from our assessments, allow staff the opportunity to continually review and enrich our curriculum and better meet each child’s developmental and individual needs. These practices represent our commitment to continuous program improvement. We use Teaching Strategies GOLD (TSG) to monitor outcomes and Ages and Stages (ASQ) as a developmental screener.

TSG is an objective-based system designed for teachers to assess children in all areas of development and learning. Classroom activities and lesson plans are created to support school readiness in the areas of literacy and mathematics. Assessment results will be shared during bi-annual parent/ guardian – teacher conferences and by request.
